History

•Bradford School of Art, Royal College of Art

•Considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century

•Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), sold at Christies Auction House for £70 million.  The most expensive artwork by a living artist sold at auction.

•Most well known painting The Bigger Splash

•My favourite ‘My Parents’ gives a strong representation of his parents.  She is sitting proudly posing for her son, the painter.  And his father shows complete disinterest!  One of the books has a reference to Chardin ( a French painter)

trees

I first learnt about David Hockney when completing a study of paths and trees.  It was suggested that I painted it in the style of Hockney.  Since then, I have learned so much about him.

HOCKNEY'S PARENTS

I just love this painting of his parents.  His Mother is sitting so proudly and attentive for her son and yet his father shows disinterest. I think he admired both of them equally which is why he painted them with honesty and truthfulness.

the bigger splash

The Bigger Splash is one of 3 paintings of the splash.  Hockney wanted to record a moment in time saying that most will try to paint this quickly, so he painted it slowly using light blue with white highlights.  The deeper blue water depicting the intensity of the Californian sun on the pool.  Although there is no person in the painting, you can imagine one below the surface.
